Iwoke with a start, my heart pounding. The dream clung to me like cobwebs, images of Anthony's wolfish grin and heated touch fading as reality set in. I groaned, burying my face in my pillow. This was becoming a habit. It was getting harder to keep things professional between us after two full weeks of training, and my subconscious wasn't helping.

Shaking off the lingering effects of the dream, I got ready for another day. As I settled onto the porch with my coffee, I couldn't help the flutter of anticipation in my stomach. It had become my favorite part of the day, waiting for Anthony's truck to rumble up the drive.

Oddly, a sleek black sedan appeared instead of Anthony's familiar truck.

I stood up, coffee forgotten, as the car pulled to a stop. A man stepped out—handsome in a forgettable way, like a stock photo come to life. He flashed me a polite smile and waved.

"Um, can I help you?" I called out, taking an instinctive step back.

The man's smile faltered, confusion clouding his features. "I'm Robert," he said, as if that explained everything. "Didn't your parents call? They said they'd let you know I was coming to visit."

I bit back a groan, realization dawning. Of course. Even miles away, my parents couldn't resist meddling. "They must have forgotten," I lied, forcing a smile. "I'm actually about to start work soon, but if you'd like some coffee before you head back, I can make you a cup."

Robert's face brightened. "That would be lovely, thank you."

I led him inside, my mind racing. How was I going to explain this to Anthony? And more importantly, how was I going to get rid of Robert before he showed up? Wait, why did it matter?

As I busied myself with the coffeemaker, Robert leaned against the counter, his eyes roaming over my kitchen. "This is a charming little place," he said, his tone a mix of politeness and barely concealed judgment. "Very... rustic."

I bristled at his words, but kept my voice neutral. "Thanks. I like it." I handed him a mug. "So, Robert, what brings you all the way out here?"

Robert took the mug, raising a brow at me. "Do I need to spell it out, Mia?"

I blinked at him, genuinely confused. He sighed, his polite veneer cracking. "Your parents thought we might be a good match. They're obviously concerned about you out here."

Annoyance flared in me, but before I could tell him off, a familiar voice called out from the open front door. "Mia? You alright? Didn't see you on the steps."

Anthony appeared in the kitchen doorway, freezing as his eyes landed on Robert. His expression darkened instantly. "Who's this?"

Robert turned, seeming to size Anthony up with little concern. He held out his hand. "Robert Kingsley. Family friend. And you are?"

Anthony shook it, his grip visibly tight. "Anthony Clark. I'm a client of Mia's."

He moved to stand beside me, positioning himself between Robert and me. The possessive gesture sent a thrill through me that I tried desperately to ignore.
